Harvest September 15

I've been out on vacation for almost two weeks and we spent out time in Maine - I'll do a series of posts on that later, but for now a quick catch up on my harvests that my sister was picking while we were gone. Beans are still producing, but slowed down. I'll leave the rest of the yellow runners to go to seed.

In the community, few melons were picked, including Crenshaw (i found it to be too sweet), few remaining zucchini's before I ripped all vines out, Cherry tomatoes and the last of the cucumbers. On the vine we still have couple of watermelons ripening, and few small butternut squash - all large ones walked away with someone else.

  1. Glad you're back--you were missed! Hope you had a good time in the state next door (to us). Still lots of good stuff being picked I see. Sorry about your butternut squash that "grew legs."

    1. Thank you, the state next door and NH (we drove through it) are very lovely indeed. Foliage starting to change so it was very pretty. I told others at the plot that they can take squash so not surprised.

  2. That is quite the bounty to come back home to. Glad you are back Jenny - I was just thinking the other day that I hadn't seen anything popping up from you recently...

    1. Not really too much (two years ago I was swimming in veggies), but enough to have healthy meals.

  3. Lovely harvests. I've never had a crenshaw melon. I've never heard anyone complain before that their melon was too sweet.

    1. I think I like my melons to be a bit more firm and not so mushy. Sweetness would have been more tolerable if it had good texture, but I think it was also over-ripe.

  4. Good that your sister was able to harvest while you were gone so nothing went to waste. How horrible that someone would walk away with you butternut squashes.
