Berry season started

I wish I could say this year's berries were large or many, but they are here, small and trickling in - every two days I've been picking them now. Even few first early blueberries that were on new plants that we got this spring for the patio were picked today. My hubby definitely enjoying it, though he prefers to pick them off the bush direct.
For now it's enough for us to snack, but definitely not enough to preserve for winter. I might do a trek to the local orchard to pick few pints to freeze and make jam, if our garden doesn't step up soon.

  1. Oooo - they look so lovely & delicious! My strawberries are flowering but no ripe berries yet - I think it will be at least another week or two. And my blueberries? They are still at the garden center ;) I'll probably have to wait another year or two before I get some bushes.

    1. Most of mine already done flowering and setting berries, but they're still small. We have early blueberries that we got this spring and our 4-yrs old that will come late in June/early July. I'm sure I'll get more from garden center as well once we redo patio.

  2. Great that you are getting so many strawberries. We have just gotten a few so far. Nancy

    1. Nancy, that's not "many" considering there are over 50 plants in the garden. Last year we got nearly 20 lbs of strawberries.

  3. Mine are trickling in too, but even at a smaller rate than yours. I wish for the berry harvest I got years ago, but I don't think it will ever happen again.

    1. Daphne, I hope your harvest will pick up soon. I think my plants did best on 2nd year so I might have to renew them.

  4. We are not going to get many blueberries this year and are refreshing the strawberry beds. We are holding out for the raspberries and blackberries.

    1. We won't get many blueberries either, but I hope to get black raspberries and strawberries. Still not sure about red raspberries and no blackberries this year.
