U-Pick farm trip

This morning we went to the local U-Pick farm. We go there every year to pick blueberries, apples, peaches and whatever else that they have at the time. This year we missed blueberries but today we were able to pick tree-ripe peaches, blackberries and green  bell peppers. Peaches will be used fresh, canned for later and few deserts. I will also try to dehydrate couple of them to see how it taste dry. Blackberries will be turned into a jam.
And yes, I picked a box of green peppers. Why? Because I don't have enough for winter time. I have enough hot peppers for salsa and such, but I need to freeze for winter while they're somewhat reasonably priced. Once winter comes, I'm not about to pay $2 for a single pepper like last year. While my own are growing and we are picking for meals, I just didn't plant enough for all our needs. So local farm is our answer.
Next time we'll go to that farm will be to get fresh apples and some cider. I love that early time in the fall when we go apple picking! Always so much fun.

  1. What a wonderful opportunity to go the that farm and pick your own. Have you tried freezing some of your peaches, sliced in a syrup. They are soooo good that way! Nancy

    1. No Nancy, I haven't tried freezing them as we don't really do anything with frozen fruit other than ocasional pie. I will try to dry some of them to see how they'll taste.

  2. I love the U-pick places. So nice to be able to select your own.
Hubby doesn't eat peppers (foolish man-LOL) so I get by with just 1 plant. I love them and would put them in so many dishes, if I could.

  3. Mmmm, those peaches look good! I don't think anybody around here grows peaches to sell, but occasionally I get some from a friend when her peach tree gives her more than she can handle.

    1. We're surrounded by orchards here but very few do u-pick. Sadly our own peach and nectarine trees died. So we have only apple and plums and hope to have them fruiting next year.
